Tigard High’s First Student Produced Play: The Good Doctor

By Lindsey Pfeiffer, Journalism Writer

Members of the Tigard High School Theatre Troupe are gearing up for their first ever student produced play, a rendition of Neil Simon’s esteemed work, The Good Doctor. The show will take place on Jan. 10, 11, and 12 at 7:30 p.m., with a matinee showing at 3:00 p.m. on Jan. 12. The play will be held in the Deb Fennell Auditorium, where all of Tigard’s theatrical events take place. The admission cost is $10, but if you bring in up to three cans of food, you can receive up to $3 off.
Tigard High Senior and sole producer of the upcoming play Nick Bussey said that he just thought over the summer that producing a play by just the students alone would be a great challenge and a fun adventure for all of the people who joined in. “The Tigard theatre students are known to be some of the best and most talented around, and a part of me wanted to see if this year – with such a strong senior class – if we could actually put together an entire production: just us students. This is something that is new, and the hope is by the end we shall be able to look back and see how well-versed in theatre we really were, and how well we were able to work together to get something this big done and done well!” Bussey commented on the new idea.
The many students that have been participating in the play have been hard at work with this piece, as it is a combination of many different styles and emotions. The play was written to reflect the style of the great Russian playwright Anton Chekhov and includes scenes of comedy, romance, emotionally touching scenes, dark scenes, and even scenes that will really make you think.
With all that is going on in the great production, the cast and crew are expected a lot to come from their hard work and dedication. Bussey stated that he hopes to gain a lot of knowledge and experience from his hard work and expects a great turnout from the student body.
So, if you enjoy fine acting and a good show, this play is for you, as it has a little bit of everything for every taste. Don’t miss it!
