On Dec. 2, 2009, Americans were buzzing about TV’s latest reality show. Whether it was a good kind of buzz or bad, it was headline news for quite a while. What show am I talking about? That’s right – it’s “Jersey Shore,” which has now been around for four years, and coming Oct. 4, the first episode of the final season will premiere on MTV.
“Jersey Shore” is the most popular show to ever air on the MTV channel. We’ve followed the cast through five seasons of drama: in New Jersey, in Miami, in Italy, through breakups, hookups, and fistfights. Even if you’ve never seen the show or have sworn you’d rather die before watching an episode, you’ve at least heard of it. And whether you like it or not, the cast has had a huge effect on America’s popular culture: their weird slang terms (which some of us now use in everyday conversation), the stigma given to Italians in America, and even our stereotype of people who live in New Jersey all were born from the cast. The series also inspired a British knock-off, “Geordie Shore.”
As for Season 6, we’ll follow the cast back to New Jersey, where Snooki, J-Woww, Deena, Ronnie, Sammi, Pauly D, Vinny, and Mike will reclaim their place in the Jersey Shore House. “It was one of my favorite ones because it showed us in a real way. We started this whole experience as kids who wanted to party, now its kids who are pregnant and having a baby and how we react to that, how we deal with that” says Vinny in an interview with MTV news. Yes, that’s right – A pregnant Snooki still came back to shoot the final season while pregnant (although she has since given birth). If that doesn’t make you want to watch, I don’t know what will.
The first episode of Season 6 premieres on Thursday, Oct. 4 at 10 p.m. Don’t worry – even when “Jersey Shore” ends, you can still catch up with Snooki and Jenni on their own reality show. A show for Vinny and Pauly D could also be in the works.
