The Tigerettes competed at their first winter season competition Saturday Jan. 28 at Canby High School. They placed 1st in the 6A division with a final SQS of 73.72 and qualified for the Dance/Drill Championships in March. This past week was especially difficult for the girls because of finals and tough practices. Their coaches pushed them really hard on perfecting forms and cleaning some rough patches in the routine. On top of that they had an extra practice and performed at the Tigard vs. Newberg boys basketball half-time on Friday.

During the first round of the competition the team surprised their coaches and themselves by scoring an 81 in projection but lacked precision. It was the first time for them to showcase their state routine, Somebody to Love. Overall it was a very satisfying first round performance but the Tigerettes were determined to step it up a notch for second round.The gym at Canby High School was packed full of fans, friends, and family during second round. Tigerettes were last to perform in their division and gave a great performance, they danced with great technique, and once again outstanding projection, however their forms were not as good as they were during first round.

At awards, the Tigerettes held hands waiting for the anticipated moment. They placed 1st, beating out the Lakeridge Pacer dancers. Senior Rochelle Glover placed 5th in the advanced drill down competition.

It was a long but rewarding day for the Tigerettes. They hope to make many improvements in the next 3 weeks for their next competition in February.
