Tigard Tigers beat Canby Cougars
September 26, 2014
The student section rushed out onto the field at the end of the fourth quarter, decked out in camo and chanting at the top of their lungs, “I believe that we have won!”, celebrating Tigard’s victory against the Canby Cougars.
The game didn’t start out looking too promising, though. Canby had their first touchdown within the first 3 minutes of the first quarter, making the student section and the football players nervous about what the rest of the night had in store for them. But soon enough Tigard made a touchdown, tying them 7-7 for the rest of the first quarter.
By the third quarter, the Tigers had made a comeback, in the lead with a score of 21 and Canby with 14.
“We made too many mistakes. Missing tackles, not blocking well on pass plays, these are all things we need to work on. But we kept fighting. We never quit and just kept fighting,” says junior Conner Crist, who is the first string left and defensive tackle for Tigard.
Though it was a tough game for both sides, the Tigers ended up with a score of 35-28.
“Communication is definitely our biggest issue,” says senior Ethan Mcconnell. “But at half time we figured out how to communicate more and we really turned it around. It ended up being a good game.”
Being such a close game, it is apparent that the Tigers definitely have their work cut out for them. You can watch them continue their winning streak next Friday night at Newberg High School!
