Tigard girls water polo led victory against Hillsboro with a score of 18-2 Tigard on Monday Sept. 30.
After losses against Newberg and Tualatin, junior Avery Branen said, “It gave us some well needed confidence after playing some really hard teams these last couple weeks.”
According the Branen, the Hillsboro team is a new program and does not have many members. The 2012 team had seven girls. Coached by John Ruzika, Tigard has many returning members this year including captains junior Elizabeth “Liz” Irving and senior Kayla Wagenhofer.
The boy’s water polo team also pulled in a win tonight with a final score of 10-7. The boys team captains are sophomore Jonathan Irving and senior Brad Hansen.
“We played reasonably well,” said sophomore Adam Stack. “We just need to work on our defense.”
Tigard water polo will play against Lakeridge on Wednesday, Oct. 2 and there will be a Tigard home game on Monday, Oct. 21.
