Students, families, and fans gathered at Jeld-Wen Stadium on Saturday Dec 1 at noon to watch the Tigard football team play against Lake Oswego in the OSAA 6A football semifinals. This was the first time Tigard has played in the semifinals since 2003 when they won their state championship. After a sweet victory against Central Catholic last Friday the Tigers were determined to give it all they had to try and make it to the state finals next week. This year they fell short and lost to Lake Oswego with a score of 42-21.
Lake Oswego came out strong and made two touchdowns by the end of the first quarter; leading Tigard 14-0. Lake Oswego also scored early on in the second quarter but Tigard was just warming up. At halftime Tigard made two touchdowns leaving them trailing behind Lake Oswego by only seven points with a score of 21-14.
In the third quarter both teams scored seven points; after the third quarter Lake Oswego was still leading 28-21. There were doubts about who was going to win but Lake Oswego pulled ahead and secured their win after Tigard made a fumble with only nine minutes left in the game. Lake Oswego fended off the Tigers in the fourth quarter winning the game with a final score of 42-21.
