E! had its “Go Big” week to kick off its TV season, starting off with “Kourtney and Kim Take New York”.
As we’ve been overly informed, Kim Kardashian and her husband, Kris Humphries, split after 72 days. Kim’s publicist must be having a field day trying to recover the “integrity” of her client. Kim and Humphries’ divorce sets quite the tone for the show, E! even started the episode with press releases about the divorce and ended the montage with an ominous “8 weeks earlier”. The montage and the “8 weeks earlier” clearly sets the stage for how the show is going to be laid out.
Honestly if they hadn’t put that little montage of press releases at the beginning, E!’s emphasis on the divorce wouldn’t be apparent. If anyone has ever watched “Keeping Up With the Kardashians”, “Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami”, or the first season of “Kourtney and Kim Take New York” then you know that the Kardashians are a crazy group of people. So far, this season doesn’t seem any different from how they normally act.
Scott Disick, Kourtney’s boyfriend, was the only person somewhat tolerable on the season premiere and that’s saying something about everyone else. Kourtney nagged Scott like usual, Kim nagged Kris about being clean, and Kris whined about mostly everything.
The beginning of the episode seemed so nice. After the montage, it flashed to Kim and Kris packing for New York and rolling around laughing. Without the montage you would think, “Aww! That’s so cute, they love each other.” But no, E! ruined that good feeling with the montage of tears and divorce papers. Then it flashes to Kourtney and Scott having problems already when they arrive at their suite in New York with the baby. Could it kill E! to pretend like the Kardashians live normal, happy lives? But then the ratings would go down!
I can already predict the ridiculous editing that will be done to paint Kim as the perfect victim of a horrible mistake. It seems recurring that Kris is “too rough” with Kim, like how he throws Kim in the water of Bora bora on the last episode of “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” even though Kim had already jumped in the water herself.
Aside from his roughness, then Kim spent the entire hour long season premiere complaining about how messy he is. Kim is a notorious neat freak, emphasis on “freak”. She claims almost their entire closet and the bathroom before he has anything to say about it, saying, “I’ve never lived with someone else before.” Well Kim you’re married now, you’re going to be sharing a lot.
The episode ends with Scott leaving their suite and going to his friend Jonathon Chebal’s house to stay, Kris leaving to go train in Minnesota, and the girls alone with the baby in their suite.
After that, E! played their usual season preview chock full of tears, yelling, more tears, more yelling, and door slamming. Looks just like the other seasons the Kardashians have been on. From the preview it seems quite heavy on how Kim is dealing with the divorce – big surprise – and not a lot of Kris except for their obviously for TV break up.
It’ll be interesting to see how E! will continue to throw Kris under the bus and emphasize just how sorry Kim is for what happened. Oh Kim, the world might believe you if you didn’t go around making a lot of money and expressing your discontent with how your relationship ended.
