On Weds., Sept. 27, Melissa Baran emailed students, staff, and parents/guardians regarding the community’s reaction to the necessary changes made to the bell schedule at THS. 

     Prior to the start of the 23-24 school year, TTSD changed the lunch period times to accommodate federal law and Oregon Bureau of Education, which state that lunch periods must be finished by 2 PM. 

     In order to satisfy the community for the short term, a snack break will be added between third and fourth block. The snack break requires that passing periods are slightly shorter in order to accommodate the 11-minute break. The email states students can access snacks via grabbing extra food at lunch, bringing food from home, and visiting the shared snack table. 

     However, the idea of one lunch in the afternoon hour is currently not possible due to the number of staff and students at THS. The email states that the single lunch option may be a long-term solution, but will require time to solve other implications.
