“For those who are about to rock… we salute you!” is the phrase that was posted on the walls of Tigard high to announce the upcoming guitar concert of 2013.
Every year those who find their passion through music can enjoy a show put on by students who play in guitar teacher Jerry King’s class. The doors of the Deb Fennell Auditorium will open at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15. Students, parents, and other community members can purchase tickets at this time. The price is 5 dollars for adults, 2 dollars for students, and 10 dollars for reserved seats. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Performances will consist of students from Guitar 1 through Guitar 4, but some include students outside of the program. Songs include Radioactive, You Really Got Me, Jessie’s Girl, and more. Senior Jessica Walters will also perform the song Eruption, as a solo.
This is one of the major school concerts before the year ends, and will finish with the seniors telling the crowd what the guitar program has meant to them over the years. They will also announce their future plans. King may also surprise the group like he did last year with his own solo.
“I feel like the school doesn’t support us as much as they should,” Walters said, hoping for the student body to show their spirit at the concert. Adding that, “the Guitar 1 kids are really good this year.”
