The National Honor Society is known for going out of their way to assist in causes that affect the community. Events such as the school blood drive with the Red Cross have always been successful, and this year the group is taking a new approach to helping those who need it with the NHS Garage Sale. The sale will take place on May 4 and 11 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Tigard High swim center parking lot.
Items that will be for sale are anything that could be found at a neighbors garage or yard sale down the street. This means used books, clothes and more are all up for grabs.
“This cause is important to me because this is my first time holding an event. I hope that I can raise enough money to help the hungry,” said student Vanessa Tran, who assists with planning the event, asking for donations, and helping to price the items.
Donations for the event are welcome, and the group encourages everyone to come down and purchase items from the sale to help in the cause. Money raised will go to St. Vincent De Paul to help the community.
“I encourage students to come with their family to support us,” said Tran. “A donation would be great!”
