After winning 19 consecutive games, beating the odds by making it to the Rose Garden, and defeating their rivals both times they played them one could say the girls basketball team had a successful season. Working hard and extending their season by two weeks the girls never quit fighting for that championship title. Although they did not make the title of champions they made a great accomplishment for their school by coming in fifth in the state of Oregon.
“This senior year has been a dream come true, nothing could have been better than being undefeated in league, winning player of the year, and going to the Rose Garden,” said senior captain Megan Risinger.
Their journey to the Rose Garden was bittersweet; full of mixed emotions of happiness and sadness. After their first game at the Rose Garden against Clackamas, they came out on top, winning their game by four points. Winning made this years’ team the first team to make it to the semi-finals since 1989. In the locker room the girls were ecstatic, expecting the same effort and outcome the next day against South Medford. Unfortunately neither of these outcomes came out as they expected. The effort they gave during the game was even better than their expectations. Although losing by four points they made it South Medford’s closet game yet.
“The crowd was great, the team did great and we all had a lot of fun,” said senior Julia Santos.
Returning players are ready for the years to come and preparing for their next trip to the Rose Garden when they plan to win it all. The leaving seniors Julia Santos, Megan Risinger, and Meeka Mayhew will sure be sitting in the stands cheering for their fellow teammates.
“This has been the most hard working, dedicated, loving team I have ever been on, these memories will always be in my heart, I couldn’t ask for better teammates and sisters,” said senior Julia Santos.
