On Friday Nov 16, the Tigard football team met up with the Canby Cougars for the second time this season. On Aug 31 Tigers faced the Cougars for the first game of the season on Canby’s turf beating them 40-13. During the second round of playoffs this week they defeated them again with a similar score of 42- 14 but this time crushing their chances for a state championship.
The game went by quickly even though the first touchdown of the night didn’t happen till the end of the first quarter. Plays by both senior Zach Floyd and junior Manu Rasmussen resulted in a touchdown leaving the Tigers at 7-0. Tigers stayed strong for the second quarter with two more touchdowns but the Cougars tried to pull ahead and scored a touchdown at the end of the first half. At halftime the score was 21-7.
During the second half Tigers continued to fight their way to next week’s quarter final. They scored two more touchdowns during the third quarter landing them in a position to win at 35-7. Cougars were shy and made little progress but managed to sneak in one more touchdown at the last second. Final score of the night was another win for Tigard 42-14.
The Tigard Tigers will play Central Catholic who beat Sunset High School with a score of 35- 21 next Friday Nov 23 in the quarter finals.
