The Tigard High guitar program showcased 18 guitar students who performed songs ranging from Led Zeppelin to Jack Johnson at the 2014 Guitar Concert.

Guitar student teacher Ian Stephens introduced the first performers and the rest of the show went on led by the students. The concert began with the song “Good Times Bad Times” by Led Zeppelin, performed by seniors Jake Price, Ryan Linder, Nicholas Dauphinais, and Jay Reddicks. The next song performed by the same group with junior Owen Black on lead vocals was “Behind Blue Eyes” by The Who, continuing with the theme of the British invasion era of classic rock.

Black took lead vocals on many songs throughout the night, including “Play That Funky Music” by Wild Cherry, “Beverly Hills” by Weezer, and “Good Love Is On The Way” by John Mayer. The junior also performed a solo to “Razor” by the Foo Fighters, a very emotional song.

“It has been so nice playing for everyone,” said Black before his last performance.

Other solo performances included junior Everett Dalton and sophomore Jacob Walter. Dalton played “Tractor Pull” by Preston Reed on acoustic guitar, a song that requires a very unique playing style that involves using mainly the neck of the guitar. Walter performed an original piece on acoustic guitar called “Bulerías‎,” which is a fast Flamenco rhythm.

An uncanny performance of “Everlong” by the Foo Fighters with Black on vocals ended the night with the audience hollering and praising the musicians.

“It does feel good to get a concert like this done,” said Stephens.

The guitar program can be seen performing soon enough at upcoming Tigard basketball playoff games and Latin Night.
