The 61st annual Scholastic Achievement Banquet was held in the commons by the Rotary Club of Tigard on May 18. The event honored senior students and their many achievements.
Students were recognized for being valedictorians, International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma candidates, and Rotary Certificate recipients.
34 students were recognized for being a valedictorian, meaning that when they graduate high school their unweighted grade point average will be 4.0.
20 students were recognized for being an IB diploma candidate. According to Maya Otto, a senior IB diploma candidate, students spent a lot of their time in high school dedicated to achieving this diploma.
“[IB requires] doing 6 IB exams and IAs, one extended essay (3600-4000 words), one TOK exhibition, and roughly 150 creative, activity, and service activity hours,” Otto said.
39 students were awarded a Rotary Certificate, a recognition of achievement in specific subjects. In order to receive this award, students were to be nominated by staff members from each subject.
