During the varsity cheer performance at the welcome back assembly on Fri., Sept. 5, team captain and senior, Inara Woolsey, fell during their stunt in the main gym.
“Nerves kind of got the best of some people, and caused some over- and under-throws for my bases, causing me to fly away,” said Woolsey.
Although the cheer team continued their performance, and Woolsey was physically unharmed, the team later dealt with negative reactions from other students who witnessed the fall.
“The rest of the school was kind of getting mad at [the cheer team], saying like, how could you do that? Why would you do that? And kind of blaming them for it,” said Woolsey.
The cheer team decided to try the stunt again later that night at the home football game against Sunset High School, during which they were successful.
“I was really proud how we just got back up and kept going, and finished it out. Then later at the game we performed again, and hit everything,” said Addie Phillips, senior member of varsity cheer.
