42 injuries have occurred among our athletic teams to date this fall season, which is approximately 10% of the approximately 427 student athletes participating in fall sports this season.
This rate of injury, however, isn’t unusual.
90% of high school student-athletes report sustaining an injury at least once in their career while participating in sports, according to the National Library of Medicine.
Of those injuries, over 50% lasted from one to three weeks out of approximately 12 weeks per high school athletic season.
No matter the sport, helping athletes learn how to take care of their bodies helps all teams.
“We should make sure athletes understand how to get a good, solid warm-up into their bodies before games so they’re ready to play, as well as reminding them to hydrate throughout the day,” said Zoey Duvall, athletic trainer.
Duvall added that these efforts might help prevent the injuries that could sideline athletes for weeks.
