32% of teachers in the U.S believe there is an equal mix of benefit and harm that can come out of AI according to the Pew Research Center.
While a survey like this has not been conducted at this time at THS, training with its staff around AI regarding cheating among students. Staff members across the district discussed benefits and harm in meetings since May 2023.
But because AI is ever changing due to its demand, it’s still a substantial issue in schools.
To some, AI undermines the process of learning and affects what type of citizens are created from these shortcuts. But if used correctly AI can improve learning and help students understand material.
“Don’t use it as a crutch. Use it as a tool to improve,”said digital engineering teacher Thomas Woodward.
This paints AI in a good light, but not all teachers agree.
“It is taking the creativity and process away from what we’re doing here,” said digital arts teacher Kelli Lafferty.
