Chemistry

Meghan Turley

Your sophomore and junior year, you get to pick your science class! Tigard offers many different types of science classes ranging from Observational Astronomy to Marine Biology. One of the most popular science choices, however, is chemistry. It is frequently cited as a prerequisite for higher level science classes at Tigard, like IB Chemistry or Anatomy and Physiology.

It is Kelsey Wahl’s second year teaching chemistry at Tigard High School. She wants future students to know that although chemistry is a challenging class, it is one that will better prepare them for college. “Chemistry prepares students to do a lot of analysis and deeper thinking, as well as skills and other science concepts on a higher level,” Wahl said. “It really helps to prepare students for the more difficult classes in the future.” Chemistry classes have homework almost every day, and move at a fast pace. It is important for students who take these classes to be prepared to put in lots of work outside of class. Chemistry classes consist of worksheets, notes and hands on labs.
