The recent attack in Las Vegas cost this world the lives of 58 people, including one of Tigard’s own. This article is dedicated to Dorene Anderson, formerly Dorene Johnston, who attended Tigard High from 1984 to 1985.

Anderson was a member of the swim team in 1984, and went to high school with her sister, Francine Johnston, who was two years younger. Anderson’s family moved before she graduated in her senior year.

In her adulthood, Anderson lived in Anchorage, Alaska, with her husband and two daughters. She was a member of the Cowbell Crew, a non-profit organization that supports hockey teams in Alaska (most notably the Alaska Aces).

Anderson was just one of many victims on that fateful day, and serves as a sad reminder that these tragedies can hit us too close to home.
