Senior Milo Smallman is one of the few seniors taking a gap year after graduating high school.
Smallman is taking a gap year to work and save up money before attending their dream college, AMDA Acting College in New York.
“For me, relaxing and earning money would be the best solution, so then I can save up to go to the college that I want to go to, and also do more things,” Smallman says.
Smallman decided to take a gap year around the beginning of his senior year after discussing his options with his parents and loved ones.
“The people who are more supportive of my decision are probably my mom and my boyfriend,” Smallman states. “Specifically my mom, she’s just happy for me to do whatever I want to do.”
Smallman plans to relocate to the Sandy area after graduating and live with either his mother or loved ones. He hopes that his time away from school will help prepare him for his future.
“Working and earning money, that is my biggest goal,” Smallman says. “Because I haven’t been able to get a job yet, it would be the best opportunity to earn lots of money with the most available time frame.”
While the full gist of his future is uncertain, Smallman still recommends his choice to others in the same boat as him.
“Definitely have more of a plan of what you will be doing so that you’re not just going in there unprepared and you have a plan of when you’re going to end your gap year and start going back to school,” Smallman states.
